Zoom Teeth Whitening (In-Office Whitening System)

teeth-whiteningZoom is a whitening process that lightens discoloration of the outer layers of the tooth. It is a revolutionary tooth whitening procedure that has received considerable publicity during its time on the former ABC’s Extreme Makeover show.

Over the years it has proven to be a very safe, effective, and relatively fast way to achieve white teeth. It is the premier choice, especially for those individuals wanting white teeth in just over an hour.

How does Zoom Whitening Work?

The Zoom! Light-activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide.  As the Hydrogen Peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, “bleaching” colored substances, while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The Zoom light aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the teeth. Studies have shown that the use of the lamp increases the effectiveness of the Zoom gel by 33% or more, gaining an average improvement of eight shades.

What is the Process?

The procedure is quite simple and is preformed in our Apopka dental office. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. The clinician then applies the proprietary Zoom Whitening Gel, which is activated by a specially designed light. This is typically completed in three, fifteen-minute intervals. The teeth typically become at least six to ten shades whiter (varies per individual). A fluoride/desensitizer treatment is then completed at the end of the gel whitening treatments, to ensure and maximize comfort.

How does Zoom Whitening compare to the over-the-counter whiteners?

There truly is no comparison. Consulting with Dr Cohil in our Apopka office is always the first step to whitening your teeth safely. Whitening strips, brush-on gels and whitening toothpastes are quite gimmicky in nature and may take months to whiten teeth, just a couple shades. In addition, whitening strips may miss areas in between the teeth and certain locations of a tooth, especially if crowding exists. Zoom is clinically proven to whiten an average of eight shades in one hour. Only a dentist can get your teeth this white, this fast!

How long do the results last?

By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing periodically with whitening toothpastes, and using occasional touch-ups with Zoom take-home gel in the customized whitening trays, that we make for you. These are professionally formulated products, designed specifically to keep your teeth they’re brightest. They are only available through your dental professional. The consumption of staining substances such as tea, coffee, colas, tobacco, red wine, etc, may cause some relapse, so minimal exposure to these are encouraged.

Custom Whitening Trays (An out-of-office treatment)

Whitening trays are a less expensive alternative to the Zoom Whitening treatment. The whitening results may also take weeks to achieve several shades of increased whitening. However, the results you receive are quite satisfactory, and far beyond any results you would get from an over-the-counter product.

What is the Process?

In our Apopka office the clinician typically takes upper and lower molds of your teeth. These molds are sent out and custom trays are then made from these molds, to hold the professionally formulated whitening gel in place. This allows for the intimate contact of the gel to the selected surfaces of the teeth. The gel dispensed is a concentration that you can only receive in a dental office. The gel is applied for thirty minutes a day, for approximately 2-3 weeks, depending on the level of whitening you want to achieve.

It is typically enough gel to whiten all of your teeth for a full year. You may then elect to purchase refill syringes for future treatments. The trays have unlimited use, as long as you do not loose or distort them.

Why Custom Whitening Trays?

Custom Whitening trays are far superior to whitening strips, brush-on whitening and whitening toothpastes. The custom trays ensure that all of the surfaces of the tooth come in contact with the whitening agent. Unlike the strips, all surfaces of the tooth are whitened, ensuring uniformity and optimal aesthetics. Also the concentration of the gel in the trays is professional strength, allowing for predictable results. Brush-on and whitening toothpaste concentrations dilute with saliva, providing substandard results, if any at all.

Is Whitening safe?

Absolutely! Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth, under the supervision of a dentist, is very safe! In, fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any whitening product, Zoom and Custom whitening trays are not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.
