There are many solutions when it comes to fixing your teeth. If you happen to be missing a lot of natural tooth structure, but the remaining amount tooth is still healthy and good, Dr. Cohil may choose to save the tooth or teeth by using porcelain inlays or onlays.
The restoration often involves onlays that are bonded to the damaged tooth. In short, it is a hard, customized ceramic filling that is glued to your tooth. When done properly, it is difficult to tell which part is natural tooth and which part is the filling.
The process involves shaping the tooth and making a mold in our Apopka office. Then having a specialized dental laboratory make the ceramic inlay or onlay. After the dentist prepares the tooth and an impression is taken, a temporary filling is placed in the mouth to cover and protect the exposed tooth structure, while the ceramic is made in our dental lab.
Ceramic fillings (inlays and onlays) are better then composite fillings in their strength, durability and appearance. Their only disadvantage is the added cost of the laboratory fee.
Dr. Kirk Cohil will determine the most conservative method to fix your teeth and create the smile you have always wanted. Our dental team has an excellent record of making people happy about the appearance of their smile!
