Bonding
Bonding is a procedure performed for those teeth that are cracked, chipped,
misaligned, or discolored, as an alternative to veneers. Bonding is completed
by using composite restorative material, specific to enhancing aesthetics.
The composite is a tooth-colored material consisting of plastic and glass
particles. It is shaped and smoothed for an ideal cosmetic result.
The bonding procedure is completed in a single visit and improves the
appearance of a tooth significantly. Depending on the purpose and location
of the bonding procedure, different shades and levels of translucent composite
are utilized to blend in with the natural tooth structure. In other instances,
it may be utilized to change the complete contour and appearance of a tooth
requested by the patient.
Bonding is the most conservative approach to enhancing a tooth cosmetically.
Bonding lasts for many years, however, can have a tendency to discolor
over time with those patients who are heavy coffee and tea drinkers or
for those who smoke.
